why a foodie blog ?

why a foodie blog ?

I’ve been interested in food – cooking and eating – pretty much all my life. I come from a long line of great cooks on both sides. My mother – an excellent cook in her own right - is half German and half Italian, and I spent many happy food-related hours with Grammy and Oma (though I wish I’d asked for more recipes, rather than trying to work them out for myself !). My dad’s family are New Englanders from way back, and taught me about good plain food – the most delicious imaginable. (I still have dreams about corn chowder….) My interests have expanded around the world, and I’m still happily learning every day.

As a single mom of three kids, my mother involved us all in running the household, including cooking. She taught us all how to make basic (but good) meals. (The first meal I ever made for my family....ham steak. 4th grade :) ). Since another one of my passions was reading, I read everything in the house – including all the cookbooks. I soon figured out that the best way to get, say, cookies was to make them myself…and once I found out I actually seemed to have some talent at it, there was no stopping me. A friend of my mother’s gave me my first cookbook of my very own (Vegetarian Epicure…still one of my favorites) at age 10, and I’ve collected them ever since.

Fast forward to the present. I actually married someone that was just as crazy about food as I am , with whom I have a son who appears to be following in our foot- (or is that food-) steps. I’ve made many wonderful foodie friends along the way...from chefs, to amazing home cooks, to people who happily eat whatever I make – or need no urging to go try a hot new restaurant. A perfect day for me often starts with “What are we going to make today ?”, and I get excited about food shopping like some people get excited about shoe shopping. (Oh, but I LOVE shoe shopping...). I’ve been exciting/inspiring/tormenting my Facebook friends for quite a while now with my food musings….and now am branching out into the blogosphere. Look out world !
